Student Learning

As an effective teacher, i need to know and understand my students and the different ways they learn. Each child develops and learns in their own unique way and there will always be a range of different abilities and aptitudes in every classroom. My teaching practice is based on acknowledging and appreciating my students for who they are and employing evidence based, effective, engaging and purposeful strategies to faciliate their intellectual, physical, social and emotional development. Every child has a unique personality, learning style, culture and background and I want them all to thrive and acheive success in their learning at school.

Facilitating authentic, collaborative tasks that are hands-on, engaging and relevant to student lives. This was a science unit on simple machines where students designed and create their own simple machines.

Providing support to students from a range of backgrounds, cultures and English language needs. Making sure instructions are clear and explicit.

Every child is unique, with their own intelligence and learning style.

Supporting and listening to students, providing feedback, giving them expanations and helping them to problem solve.

Catering for a range of learning styles, with open ended activities that have a kinesthetic and artistic component.

Making sure that children get to move their bodies regularly and are not sitting for too long. I incorporate movement, stretching, breathing and relaxation for an optimum learning environment in the classroom.

Using lots of visual aides in the classroom to support instruction. Students are encouraged to use concrete material as visual and kinesthetic support.

As an inclusive educator, I see all students as unique learners who can succeed in their learning. I have a deep committment to creating a supportive, welcoming and inclusive environment for ALL students regardless of background, race, culture, gender or physical limitations.
