Teaching in Nepal

In November 2014, I embarked on a life-changing teaching experience in Astam, Nepal. I spent three weeks teaching in a small village school in the foothills of the Himalayas. The experience refined my teaching pedagogy and helped me to develop the skills to assist English language students (EAL) with diverse backgrounds and needs. In Nepal, I learned so much about myself, I was as much a learner as my students. I would love to go back there soon!

This research report is an analysis of research that highlights the importance of social and emotional learning in schools and classrooms.

The topic was chosen to develop an informed, evidence based position about the potential benefits of social and emotional learning for students, educators and the broader community. Social and emotional learning was a strong topic of interest for me, as an educator and I have had the opportunity not only to make links between theory and practice, but also develop a bank of resources for my educational career.

The in-depth analysis of social and emotional learning has provided me with an informed and professional position, which is highly valuable to me as I enter the teaching profession and is now at the heart of my educational philosophy and practice.
